A Quick Taste

Two Bible class leaders, one in Florida and one in Connecticut, have successfully helped a total of over 50 people whet their appetites for learning more and more about the Bible.

Pastor Paul Jagoe, St. Philip’s Anglican Church , Orlando, Florida says, “I like The Bible’s Big Story: Our Story because it is easy to grasp and a quick interesting way to get the biblical context into people’s hearts. We used this course on a Sunday evening, and plan to do it again later in the year for those who missed the first one. I used it as both a means to introduce the big picture of the Bible . . . and as a taste to encourage people to next take The Divine Drama.

“We discovered that people were not motivated to sign up for the class until they saw The Biblical Tell-Tale Time-Line large wall chart set into a frame, on an easel, and placed where they had to pass by it on their way into the sanctuary for worship. Seeing the
time-line made the class seem real. The pictures intrigued people and reminded them that they needed to sign up for the short course. It let them have a sense of what they were going to learn in the class. People began to sign up for the class almost immediately.

“We held TBBS in the sanctuary and over 30 showed up for it. I used the CD-ROM in conjunction with the time-line wall chart during the presentation. People were amazed at how much they could learn in a three-hour stint.”

Liza Zajac Whitehead, Beacon Falls Congregational Church, Oxford, Connecticut, says, “We combined The Bible for Busy People DVD and TBBS for three Thursday evening classes that attracted 24 people from our very small church. People liked learning so much about the Bible in a short amount of time.

“We advertised the course, in the church bulletins and on our website and in newsletters, in the following way: Please join us for a three-week course which promises to quickly pump up your Bible literacy, not waste your time. This short course focuses on the full sweep of the biblical narrative in chronological order. See the ‘big picture’ like never before! No cost to participants. Full color student manual provided. No prior Bible study experience necessary nor assumed. Three Thursday evenings from 7:30-9:00 PM.

“We especially liked that we only needed a facilitator to run this course because it was DVD-based. We also liked the fact that each student text came with a gorgeous full-color time-line . . . a treasure-trove of information that sparked much interest.”
