Congregations share how they have made Advent more meaningful
for
people of all ages!
People are sometimes astonished to learn that the Bible never says
there were three wise men, never portrays Mary riding a donkey, never says that
Jesus was born in a stable. Christmas: The Real Story examines what Scripture
actually says – and doesn’t say – about the Nativity.
At Zion Lutheran Church, Des Moines, Iowa, Linda Danielson has helped
sixth graders prepare to act out the Christmas story by using
Christmas: The Real Story.
Linda says, “I taught Christmas: The Real Story to the children in preparation
for their annual Christmas pageant. This is one curriculum we need to get to
younger ages, as well as to adults who have heard the traditional version of
the Christmas story all their lives. There might be less resistance to
the true biblical Christmas story if we
start hearing it as children. As it is, some of the adults may only hear
the story through the children’s program. In this pageant, the children
have an opportunity to learn about and share what Jesus’ birth was like
over 2000 years ago within the traditions and culture of His time.”

At St. Michael Roman Catholic Church, Indianapolis, Indiana, Mr. William Danner,
Director of Religious Education, says that people are fascinated by what Scripture
really says. “Christmas: The Real Story opens doors for a flood of conversation! It
gets people thinking!”
He continues, “For the four weeks of Advent, this short course is our adult
Bible study group’s focus. It proves to be a genuine eye-opening experience
as people break open their Bible to read and see what is really there. It
is a fantastic revelation for more fully
understanding how we should use Scripture to get to the message of
God.”
“Christmas: The Real Story, with its colorful graphics, furthers the understanding
of the culture and history of Jesus’ time. I use it every Advent
season.”
